How to buy from JD.com internationally, step by step

JD Worldwide vs the main JD.com site, how to find items that ship to you, shipping and payment options, and when an agent makes it easier.

How to buy from JD.com internationally, step by step

Yes, you can buy from JD.com from outside China. But there are two versions of the site, shipping depends on the seller and the language and payment steps can be awkward. This is how it works, and where a sourcing agent saves you effort.

Platform screens and rules change often. Check the current options on JD.com before you order.

In short

  • Look for items marked for global or international delivery, so you know they can ship to your country.
  • Choose a shipping method that matches your budget and deadline: express for speed, sea freight for big orders.
  • Use browser translation or the JD app if you don't read Chinese.
  • For business orders, or if you'd rather not deal with payments, language and shipping yourself, an agent can handle it.

JD Worldwide vs the main JD.com site

They're not the same thing.

Platform Selection Shipping
JD Worldwide Smaller Ships directly to other countries, with customs fees and duties shown in the price
JD.com Much larger Built for buyers in China; usually ships inside China, quickly

JD Worldwide lets you buy from abroad with clear tariffs. The main site has far more products but is designed for local buyers, so from another country you usually need a parcel forwarder or an agent to get the goods out of China.

For US addresses you typically see these options: official direct shipping, where the fee shows right away, and third-party consolidated shipping by ocean or air freight, where the fee is not shown at first and you must find out the price in an extra step.

Limits for international buyers

Expect friction with language, payment and tracking, and some sellers don't ship outside China at all. An agent can talk to sellers for you, handle the payment, inspect the products before they ship, keep your items in a warehouse and combine them into one shipment to save on freight.

Account and address

You'll need a JD account. Register on the site with your email or phone number and a password, and follow any verification steps. Then add your delivery address in your account settings: full name, address in your local format, postal code and phone number. Double-check for mistakes.

If you don't read Chinese, use your browser's built-in translation, or the JD app, which sometimes has English menus. Save important pages so you can refer back to them.

Finding products that ship to you

  • Search for what you want and look for tags such as "global delivery" or "ship to the USA".
  • In the app, set your location to your country so you only see items that can reach you.
  • Use filters (for example "ship to the USA") and sort by delivery speed or cost.
  • Read the title, photos, seller ratings and reviews, including comments on delivery and after-sales service.
  • Check the estimated delivery time before you pay.

Shipping options

Method Typical time Cost Reliability
DHL Express 3–7 business days Expensive for heavy items Very reliable, good for electronics
FedEx / UPS Similar to DHL Similar Reliable for larger shipments
EMS (China Post Express) 7–20 business days Cheaper than express Tracking can be patchy
Air freight + last mile 10–25 days Cost-effective Common for commercial samples
Sea freight 25–45 days Higher destination fees Practical for large orders
DDP lines Varies Taxes paid upfront Least stressful for European buyers

(These are rough ranges, not guarantees.) Shipping cost is based on chargeable weight, the higher of the real weight and the volumetric weight, calculated as length × width × height (cm) ÷ 5000. Big, light boxes cost more. A parcel forwarder or a warehouse that consolidates your orders can lower the price.

For a shipment to the USA, a rough timeline is about 2 days of domestic processing, 1 day of warehouse processing and around 5 days of international transit: a bit over a week for express.

Paying from abroad

JD accepts international cards such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express and JCB. Your bank may charge a cross-border fee, so check with them first, and use a card enabled for international payments. If a payment fails, try another card or ask an agent to pay for you.

Common problems

Problem What to do
Order delay Check tracking in the app and contact support if nothing updates
Payment error Try another card, or use an agent
Language problem Use translation tools or ask an agent to message the seller
Lost package Check the delivery status and contact support right away

Keep your order number and delivery details safe, because you'll need them when you contact support.

When an agent makes sense

If you buy for a business or in volume, we can source from JD.com and other Chinese platforms from a link, talk to sellers in Chinese, handle the payment, check the goods with photos and video before shipping, store and consolidate your orders in our warehouse and ship worldwide. You tell us what you want and where it goes, and we tell you what it will take.
